Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis is present in 15.5% of the population and is diagnosed by physicians in only 2%. It requires multidisciplinary care with a focus on chronic symptoms. It is diagnosed based on American Academy of Otolaryngology criteria, yet standardized procedures remain challenging.
Methodology: A systematic meta-analysis was performed with the aim to appraise existing literature on chronic rhinosinusitis and the role of biologics and precision medicine in its management. The choice of articles was guided by their relevance in terms of CR, and data was collated into three key tables that outlined article details, conclusions, methodology, and results and conclusions. The debate focused on the application of EPOS2020 recommendations, the necessity of specialized treatment strategies, and the requirement for tailored therapies to the complexity of CR.
Results: The meta-analysis illuminated the complex nature of chronic rhinosinusitis, with treatment individualization being necessary due to the heterogeneity of patient response. Biologics emerged as a valuable option in recalcitrant cases, though conventional treatments like intranasal corticosteroids and saline irrigation continue to be part of management. The emphasis on the necessity for additional research that attempts to define standardized treatment strategies with an emphasis on the individual patient's distinct requirements is underscored.
Finally, the study demands the creation of new CR treatment guidelines that emphasize learning about patient characteristics and organizing better therapeutic strategies.
